New York Jets Will Be On Your TV A Lot In 2024
Danielle Parhizkaran / USA TODAY NETWORK

NFL fans are going to be seeing a lot of the New York Jets early in the 2024 season. They have a record-setting number of stand-alone games, as seven out of their first 11 games will be on national television.

The New York Jets kick the season off on Monday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers. In Week 3, they host the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. From Week 6-8, they will be playing standalone games each time against the Minnesota Vikings overseas before returning stateside for Monday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills and Sunday Night Football at the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Week 9 they are on Thursday Night Football again against the Houston Texans on Halloween. Before their Week 12 bye, they will be hosting the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night football. The league knows that is a tough schedule, but believe that they are owed as much a little bit.

“Yes, it’s an awful lot of prime-time games early in the season, but, obviously, I feel like Jets kind of owe us one,” Mike North, the NFL’s vice president of broadcast planning, said on a video conference with reporters.

The six nighttime games in the first 11 weeks of the season are the most for a franchise since the 1970 merger. The league went heavy on the New York Jets last season, looking to cash in on the Aaron Rodgers effect.

In 2023, they were in prime time five times. Alas, that backfired when Rodgers was injured four plays into the season, leading to some terrible football being played by the New York Jets for everyone to see.

“When we had this conversation a year ago, we were — all of us — all-in on the Jets, and for that guy to last four plays was disheartening for many of us,” North said. “I feel like we could run it back, and certainly our broadcast partners, when they came to us early in the process talking about what storylines they want to focus on early in the season, obviously Aaron Rodgers’ return was a key one for everybody.”

Given the flex schedule that the NFL now uses, we could see the New York Jets even more down the stretch of the season depending on how things shake out. As things currently stand, all of the team’s games with start times from Week 13 are scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. ET.
