Anthony Edwards Says Timberwolves' Chris Finch Is The Best Coach In The NBA: 'Head Of The Snake'

The Minnesota Timberwolves have made it to the Western Conference Finals and they believe they can go all the way and win that elusive championship this year. Anthony Edwards was asked what gives the team that belief during his press conference after their Game 7 win over the Denver Nuggets, and he pointed to head coach Chris Finch.

"It starts with our head coach, Chris Finch," Edwards said. "He comes in every day, he comes to work, he gets there early. He's thinking of ways to get me and (Karl-Anthony Towns) open looks. He's thinking of ways to get Mike (Conley) and Rudy (Gobert) open looks. he's thinking of ways to get Jaden (McDaniels involved. He's trying to keep Naz (Reid) in it to get him involved.

"He's just a great coach, and he don't sugarcoat anything with anybody," Edwards continued. "If KAT's f****** up he's gonna get on KAT. If I'm f****** up, he's gonna get on me. If Rudy f****** up, he’s gonna get on anybody that's messing up throughout the game.

"I think that’s what makes him the best coach in the NBA to me," Edwards stated. "Because no matter who it is no matter how high the player is on the pole, he’s going to get on you from start to finish. It starts with the head of the snake, and he’s the head of our snake. We all listen to him, look up to him, and he does a great job of making sure we’re ready to go every night."

Finch certainly deserves a lot of respect for the job he has done thus far. Edwards revealing how he holds everyone accountable also shows he has the backbone you need to be a great head coach in the NBA. 

Finch became the head honcho in Minnesota back in 2021 after Ryan Saunders was fired following a 7-24 start to the 2021-22 season. The Timberwolves went 16-25 under their new head coach and it seemed as if they were indeed taking a step in the right direction under him.

Then in his first full season, Finch led the Timberwolves to the playoffs with a 46-36 record. It was their first appearance in the postseason since 2018, but they lost in the first round to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Another first-round exit followed in 2023, but the Timberwolves did manage to give the Nuggets a bit of a scare in that series. It proved to be a sign of things to come, as Minnesota knocked out Denver in seven games in these playoffs.

Finch will now look to lead the Timberwolves to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history. I would give them the edge over the Dallas Mavericks as of now and it would be quite the feat if they do make it to the Finals.

Anthony Edwards And Karl-Anthony Towns Hilariously Reacted To Question About Losing Before Winning

While Edwards was pretty serious there when he spoke about Finch, a hilarious scene had unfolded just before that. A reporter stated that NBA history showed you need to lose on a big stage before winning and it led to some hilarious comments from both Edwards and Towns.

Karl-Anthony Towns: "It’s the playoffs we lost last year."

Anthony Edwards: "We lost the last two years, sh*t."

Karl-Anthony Towns: "God damn, how much more we got to lose?"

Anthony Edwards: "How much you want us to lose?"

Karl-Anthony Towns: "We've been losing for 20 years."

They were indeed losing for a very long period of time. Something tells me, that they'll now be winning for a fairly long period of time as well, with Edwards and Towns leading the way.
